AT Assessment Services

The Idaho Assistive Technology Project (IATP) offers two types of assessments:

1)  School-based assessments;
2)  Assessments for adults with developmental disabilities

1)  School-based Assessment Services

The Idaho Assistive Technology Project (IATP), together with the State Department of Education (SDE), offers school-based Assistive Technology Technical Assistance (ATTA) to IEP teams that are considering the implementation of an assistive technology (AT) device or service for a specific student.  IDEA requires that all IEP teams consider assistive technology during the IEP process.  The ATTA Project offers support to school districts and IEP teams in the form of AT assessments and trainings.  These services are conducted by Assistive Technology Practitioners (ATPs) with credentials from RESNA (Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America).

The focus of the Project will be child-centered and team based, emphasizing the importance of building the capacity of school district personnel.  Teams will be able to take the knowledge and skills gained from trainings and assessments and generalize it to support other students.  ATPs will also participate in statewide training opportunities and encourage school-based teams to attend those trainings as well.

The ATTA Project utilizes an assessment process to develop an action plan for a student with assistive technology needs. The action plan is the outcome of a creative problem-solving approach that is child-centered and team-based. The ATP that participates in this process is a consultant to the team that comes with a rich background in assistive technology. The ATP contributes his or her area of educational, work-related, and AT expertise to the team, while identifying barriers to student participation and possible solutions to those barriers.  In performing an AT assessment, the ATP considers the student, environment, and tasks before making recommendations for potential technology.  Multiple environments must be observed and considered before a recommendation can be mad

School-based assessment applications are only to be submitted by school personnel.  If you are  family member, and therefore part of the student's educational team and wish to have an assessment completed on your child, please contact the student's special education teacher to begin the application process.

2)  Adult Assessment Services

Adult Assessments are available if covered by insurance and are designed to determine how the use of the latest assistive devices and/or home remodeling ideas can help a person remain living in their home as long as possible - and avoid entering a nursing home or assisted living environment.
